Sazid Khan is an epidemiologist and program manager at RTI with experience in data analysis and reporting; geographic information systems; data visualization; health communications; project leadership; and survey development, management, and analysis. Dr. Khan works on projects centered on programmatic evaluation, epidemiological consultation, and training and technical assistance.

He currently leads a project for the state of South Carolina that is focused on providing epidemiological consultation and state-level evaluation for the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Funds Board, which oversees the allocation of opioid settlement funds across the state. In addition, Dr. Khan is the quantitative task lead on several projects, including the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)-funded Opioid Response Network and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Evaluating an Adverse Childhood Experiences Targeting Advocate Model of a Substance Use Prevention Program project. He also provides subject matter expertise across RTI, including for justice-involved and data policy modeling projects.

Prior to joining RTI in 2021, Dr. Khan was the State Epidemiologist at the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS), where he chaired the state epidemiological outcomes workgroup, the governor’s Opioid Emergency Response Team Data Committee, and other statewide coalitions focused on substance use.

He has published in several peer-reviewed journals and contributed to several academic journals—including the Annals of Epidemiology, PLOS One, AIDS and Behavior—as a peer reviewer. Dr. Khan is a member of the American College of Epidemiology (ACE) and the American Public Health Association (APHA).
