Barbara L. Kroner

Senior Epidemiologist

Barbara Kroner, PhD, has been with RTI since 1983, where she has managed complex multicenter national and international epidemiologic studies of genetic and environmental risk factors related to viral and chronic disease, most notably outcomes related to HIV and HCV infection among persons with hemophilia and risk factors for aortic aneurysms and dissections in persons with Marfan and related syndromes. She also directs a study to determine the incidence and prevalence of epilepsy in Washington, DC. She has considerable knowledge regarding the practical techniques of biospecimen collection, processing, handling, and testing as components for epidemiologic studies. She was the chair of RTI’s Biospecimen Subcommittee under the Regulatory Affairs Working Group, which developed a new policy regarding infectious substances and diagnostics specimens. Dr. Kroner’s other research interests include Aicardi syndrome and the growth and development of children with disabilites.
