Shannon Blakey, PhD, is a Research Clinical Psychologist at RTI whose research focuses on the prevention and treatment of mental health problems and suicide, especially among military and veteran populations. She is an expert in psychosocial models of posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, depression, and alcohol use disorder, as well as how these problems interact to increase risk for self- and other-directed violence.

Dr. Blakey’s expertise includes evidence-based assessments, interventions for behavioral health concerns, and clinical trials. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and U.S. Department of Defense, and she has published over 85 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Before joining RTI, Dr. Blakey was a clinical psychology researcher within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

She is a licensed clinical psychologist in North Carolina and certified by the North Carolina Board of Psychology as a Health Services Provider, Psychologist.
