Abstract
Asbestos analytical methods have been in a state of development for several years. The foundation methods include transmission electron microscopy (TEM); the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 1984 Draft Method (Yamate Method); the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) TEM Protocol for analyzing airborne asbestos; and the interim EPA polarized light microscopy (PLM) method for analyzing asbestos in bulk insulation materials. However, the adequacy of these methods in accomplishing their tasks now is being closely scrutinized.
