Caviness, L. L., Butler, J. S., Cirella, J. M., & Pratt, J. G. (2008, May). Lessons Learned: Migrating to Windows Vista in a Large Scale Survey. Presented at IFD&TC 2008, New Orleans, LA.
Vista is the latest version of the Microsoft Windows operating system, and is becoming more prevalent on computers today. For many organizations, the decision to migrate is not a question of “If” but a question of “When.” Migrating to Windows Vista is a major undertaking and will require extensive planning and support from all members of the organization. This presentation will look at the migration process for a large scale survey that uses Computer Assisted Interviewing (CAI) on laptop computers. We will look at the key differences between Vista and Windows XP, the factors considered in planning the migration process, and some of the key issues pertaining to a large scale survey. Additionally, we will look at some of the lessons learned, and issues still to be addressed during the migration process to Vista.
