RTI Center for Policing Research and Investigative Science

Improving public safety and the administration of justice through research, evaluation, data, and technology

The RTI Center for Policing Research and Investigative Science partners with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders, such as crime laboratories and medical examiner and coroner offices. We actively collaborate to ensure our work has direct implications for the field and to help build the foundation of evidence-based policing.

Policing is vital to ensure the safety and well-being of people and their communities. Law enforcement officers confront some of the most heightened and difficult challenges and must always strive to be vigilant, equitable, and fair. At the same time, many agencies are understaffed, under-resourced, and as the first responders to a wide range of events, sometimes undertrained.

Our multidisciplinary team includes criminologists, data scientists, behavioral health specialists, practitioners, and analysts including staff with direct law enforcement and forensic experience. Our diversity in skills and experiences can help the field move toward better understanding, outlining, and addressing 21st-century policing and investigative challenges.
