A web-based application that processes and analyzes call-for-service data for public safety agencies and emergency service departments
In jurisdictions throughout the United States, law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and emergency medical services have little time and too few resources for nonessential functions and analysis. High demand for public safety and emergency service resources dictates that these agencies must be as efficient as possible.
To ensure they are operating at peak efficiency agencies must accurately and efficiently analyze the demand on their resources and personnel. They also must be able to justify how those resources are being used—to the public and to elected officials responsible for public safety. Specifically, as the public demands increased accountability for all aspects of law enforcement functions, agencies must justify operational and strategic decisions to demonstrate transparency as well as their commitment to the safety of the communities they serve.
Anytime someone calls 911, also known as a call for service (CFS), the police, firefighters, or paramedics respond. Calls for service drive the demand for public safety and emergency service resources. Thus, CFS data are the primary measure of operational demands and the ideal subject of analysis to determine strategic priorities.
Ensuring Law Enforcement, Fire, and Emergency Medical Service Activities Aligns with Public Safety Needs
Our experts collaborated with public safety practitioners to create a web-based application that processes and analyzes an agency’s CFS data, which includes officer, firefighter, paramedic, and citizen-generated calls for service. The purpose of this tool—dubbed CFS Analytics™—is to make CFS data analytically accessible so that an agency can gain greater insight into operational and strategic issues.
The application unlocks valuable, but complex data and breaks down raw CFS records and presents them in a user-friendly and intuitive interface. The application runs on existing hardware for maximum deployability across agencies. CFS Analytics has a robust data architecture designed for ease of use by decision makers at all points in the chain of command. The application features visualization tools that allow data to be more easily analyzed across different periods of time, empowering users to quickly analyze variability in demand on resources.
New Insights Generate Strategy-Driven Action and Informed Resource Decisions
CFS Analytics allows users to understand how resources are being used proactively within the context of citizen-initiated activity. The tool monitors performance management and helps to justify budgets by demonstrating the demands on an agency’s resources and by confirming resources are being deployed to the right places at the right times.
The application also assists in identifying operational “chokepoints” where resources are outnumbered by demands. Efficient analysis and visualization of these data provide great insight into operational and strategic issues, further supporting law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and emergency medical services in their duty to keep citizens and communities safe.
