RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – RTI International has earned re-accreditation as a CEO Cancer Gold Standard employer for yet another year, demonstrating ongoing efforts to provide a healthy work environment for all staff members.
Only companies that foster a culture that lowers cancer risks by promoting healthy lifestyle choices, encourage early detection through cancer screenings, and ensure access to quality treatment can earn CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation. RTI has been Gold Standard accredited since 2010.
"The health and well-being of our staff members is extremely important," said Lisa May, executive vice president of human resources at RTI. "We are proud to have maintained this high standard of excellence for cancer detection, prevention and treatment."
The CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit group of CEOs, created the CEO Cancer Gold Standard in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute and leading health non-profit organizations, as a way of fighting cancer in the workplace.
Today more than four and a half million employees and family members benefit from the commitment of nearly 200 private, non-profit, and government employers who have chosen to become Gold Standard accredited. To achieve and maintain this status, employers must offer resources and benefits that will lower cancer risk, such as support to help quit using tobacco and programs that encourage physical activity and a healthy diet.
Gold Standard employers are also required to cover cancer screenings, which increase the likelihood of detecting cancer at its earliest stages when treatment may be more effective. In the event of a cancer diagnosis, employers provide access to quality care, including participation in clinical trials.
The CEO Roundtable on Cancer was founded in response to a challenge from former President George H.W. Bush, who asked a group of executives to "do something bold and venturesome" about cancer. For more information, visit www.CancerGoldStandard.org.
