Ernesto Guiang brings more than 35 years of experience in program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of multi-faceted, integrated environment and natural resource management initiatives. Within his current role as Chief of Party of the USAID Philippines Sustainable Interventions for Biodiversity, Oceans, and Landscapes (SIBOL) project, Dr. Guiang’s responsibilities include providing overall leadership, technical and management oversight, strategy formulation, networking, and coordination with USAID and government and private sector partners, and direction in the implementation of the project.
Previously, Dr. Guiang served as a part-time team leader within the United Nations Development Programme’s Global Environment Facility team tasked with reviewing the findings and lessons from the Pacific Ridge to Reef Program and formulating mainstreaming strategies and as Intermittent Senior Natural Resources Management Advisor of the USAID Protect Wildlife Project. He also previously served as Chief of Party of the USAID Protect Wildlife Project in the Philippines from 2016 to 2019.
Dr. Guiang is a registered professional forester in the Philippines. He is fluent in English and Filipino and has basic knowledge of Spanish and Vietnamese. He serves as a board member to Community Hopes Alternatives, is a member of the Society of Filipino Foresters in the Philippines, and was formerly a member of the International Society of Tropical Foresters.
