Ellen Thomas is an expert in food safety and risk management. She specializes in developing risk-ranking and hazard evaluation tools that help inform decisions related to food safety. With experience in mixed-methods research and risk communication, she contributes to projects that address food safety throughout the farm to fork system.
Dr. Thomas often works on projects serving the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Currently, she is leading the development of a risk-ranking tool for high-risk foods, and leading an observational meal preparation experiment for a behavior change study related to food safety.
Dr. Thomas joined RTI in 2015. She is a member of the International Association for Food Protection and the Conference for Food Protection and has a certificate from the FDA/USDA Better Process Control School.
