RTI is proud to sponsor the 2019 Triangle Global Health Annual Conference on Wednesday, October 16th in Durham, North Carolina. This year's theme is "One Health: Creating our Shared Future -- Humans, Animals, and the Environment."

The One Health concept is a worldwide approach to expanding interdisciplinary collaboration and communication on all aspects of health for humans, animals, and the environment. Join us to examine how health for humans, animals, and the environment are inextricably linked, and explore how to take a One Health approach to promoting a healthy and sustainable future for all.

See below to learn more about what our experts are presenting at the conference.

Morning Plenary, 9:00 a.m.: Ballroom II/III

Climate Change: The Ultimate One Health Scenario: Climate change has wide-reaching impacts on global nutrition and food security. Not only are there effects of climate on agricultural productivity, but elevated carbon dioxide levels make food and feed crops less nutritious. Reductions in nutrient availability projected under future climate scenarios are likely to slow progress in decreasing global nutrient deficiencies. In addition, changes in nutrient concentrations vary by crop, region, and nutrient, with potentially important implications for food and agricultural policy design.

  • RTI Panelist: Robert Beach, RTI Fellow, Twitter handle: @RobertHBeach
Afternoon Breakout Session Panel, 1:10 p.m.: Junior Ballroom D

Public-Private Partnership Models Driving Infectious Disease Innovation: The Triangle region plays an important role in supporting U.S. government efforts to combat infectious disease and respond to environmental disasters. This includes participation in two innovation and commercialization accelerators funded by BARDA (Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority): DRIVe (Division of Research, Innovation, and Ventures) and CARB-X (Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria Biopharmaceutical Accelerator). This panel will feature representatives from these two programs and showcase examples of research and innovation supported through public-private partnership models.

  • RTI Panelist: Doris Rouse, VP, Global Health Technologies. Public-private partnerships have demonstrated the value of bringing together the expertise and resources of government, business and academic organizations to address important needs in developing new medical products. Using tuberculosis drug development as a case study, Doris' presentation will address key factors for success of a partnership.
  • RTI Panelist: Chris George. This presentation will focus on why CARB-X exists, the types of projects CARB-X funds and discuss the scientific and business support provided by the CARB-X accelerator network.
Afternoon Plenary Storyteller, 3:00PM: Ballroom II/III
  • RTI Presenter: Felicia Browne, Research Public Health Analyst, 2019 Ward Cates Emerging Leader
