Lifelong Learning Centers
Initially developed by RTI to support the U.S. Army's Lifelong Learning Program, the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC, sometimes referred to as the Lifelong Learning Resource Center) provides the technical hub of the Lifelong Learning process. The LLC houses and maintains the IT infrastructure plus 24-hour/7-day-a-week support personnel that enable Lifelong Learning to occur.
The LLC maintains a portal for access to training and education content. It maintains a student management function to monitor and manage training records. The LLC maintains a digital library for creation, storage, and delivery of all standardized training and education content, and provides a human element with support available 24/7.
The four key elements of the LLC are:
-
Lifelong Learning Portal that provides a single point of entry for all learners training and education needs.
-
Student Information System that interfaces seamlessly with other systems, providing automated tools to manage, deliver, and track training.
-
Digital Library to house online course content, 3-D simulations, and other digitized training materials and publications. The digital library also provides an indexed, searchable interface for the staff and faculty to assist in the production and review of new training materials and courseware.
-
Support Desk that assists users and faculty in the form of technical support for problems associated with applications, or hardware and software; and operational support for learners with questions on how best to perform a task or function, or questions related to their occupational specialty. Questions can be routed to a subject matter expert and tracked in a frequently-asked-questions database to expedite similar requests in the future.
