Governance and Economic Development Projects: Morocco
United States Agency for International Development
The Local Governance Program (LGP2) aims to promote more effective and accountable local governance in Morocco by increasing citizen participation in local governance, enhancing local governments' performance, and encouraging increased accountability and transparency.
Building on achievements from the first Local Governance Program that RTI implemented from 2005 to 2009, LGP2 emphasizes providing youth and women with opportunities to participate in local affairs and strengthening the capacity of governments to mobilize revenue and develop innovative partnerships in delivering key local services. RTI will implement an innovative communications plan incorporating a variety of methods—peer-to-peer workshops, dissemination of governance messages, and posting project results on Web sites—to reach the media, other communes, and citizens.
LGP2 will support the increased devolution and deconcentration of authority to the regional and provincial levels to ensure that decision making is brought closer to the citizens who are directly affected.
The project is a task order of the Sustainable Urban Management (SUM) II Indefinite Quantity Contract (IQC).
