ICT in Global Health

Quality information is essential for health systems strengthening. Information and communication technology (ICT) provides powerful tools to improve the quality, timeliness, and use of health information at all levels, from the point of care to national policy dialogue.

RTI's work with national health information system frameworks includes understanding the critical impact of government decentralization. Our pioneering work in point-of-care systems and open source software technology demonstrates that these systems can be scaled up and sustained. Our innovative use of mobile phone technology engages private sector support as part of broad stakeholder partnerships.

We help local and national stakeholders to

  • Focus information system design on demand and use
  • Advance from national assessment and planning to coordinated implementation
  • Strengthen capacity to implement, support, and use information systems at all levels
  • Use open-source technologies and low-cost computing infrastructure
  • Leverage public-private partnerships and local institutions to scale up projects under local power
