Environmental Measurement and Monitoring: Projects
Verification Testing of Air Pollution Control Technology
Client
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Risk Management Research Laboratory
Description
Background. RTI is a cooperative partner in EPA's Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) and Environmental and Sustainable Technology Evaluations Programs to verify the environmental performance characteristics of commercially ready technologies through the evaluation of objective and quality-assured data. The programs provide potential purchasers and permitters with an independent and credible assessment of technologies they are buying and permitting. We support ETV's goal to substantially accelerate the acceptance and use of improved and cost-effective technologies.
Activities. We operate the Air Pollution Control Technology Verification Center and verify technologies. For each prioritized technology area, we form a panel of experts and multidisciplinary stakeholders that includes buyers, vendors, permitters, and other interested parties. With input from the expert panel, we prepare generic verification test protocols and site-specific test/QA plans and conducts verification testing.
Results. We have conferred with nearly 300 stakeholders, completed 7 test protocols, and completed more than 30 verification tests. We have targeted control technologies for fine PM, NOx, VOCs, semi-volatile organic compounds, and hazardous air pollutants.
