Environmental Measurement and Monitoring: Projects
Stationary Source Emissions Evaluation and Monitoring Guidance and Support
Client
U.S. EPA Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS)
Description
We provide technical support in estimating source emissions and in monitoring the operation and performance of industrial processes and their air pollution control devices. Our work includes
-
Assisting EPA with evaluating monitoring approaches and data for specific situations. We collect background information on the processes and air pollution control devices, evaluate available monitoring and emissions data, and if necessary, recommend improvements.
-
Preparing technical guidance for monitoring approaches for different combinations of processes, control devices, and pollutants. Examples include stationary source monitoring approaches for Title V permitting, including Compliance Assurance Monitoring (CAM) and flexible permits.
-
Preparing performance specifications for Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems, including the final Performance Specification 11 for Particulate Matter CEMS and the draft Performance Specification 17 for Continuous Parameter Monitoring Systems.
-
Providing outreach support. For example, RTI helped prepare and present nationwide satellite video courses on the regulatory and technical requirements for monitoring to comply with EPA's CAM and Title V permit rules. Also, RTI provided technical content for EPA's Monitoring Knowledge Base Web site on types of air pollution control devices, title V monitoring, CAM, and flexible permits.
