Environmental Measurement and Monitoring: Projects
Site Contaminant Characterization, Remediation, and Monitoring
Client
Confidential industrial client
Description
We provide comprehensive environmental consulting services to a confidential industrial client located above a multiple-aquifer system in the eastern coastal plains. Not only is the site a complex hydrogeologic setting, but it is also complicated by multiple waste sources and associated organic, inorganic, and radiological groundwater contaminant plumes.
In addition to providing consulting and monitoring services, we performed several expedited sub-surface contaminant characterization and remediation projects at the site.
We followed the project-specific sampling and analysis plans and used state-of-the-art tools to assess the nature and extent of soil and groundwater contamination. We used direct-push soil and groundwater sampling technology, on-site analytical screening methods, and the combined use of geophysical and passive soil-vapor sampling technologies to delineate the source and extent of contamination. In addition, we designed and supervised the installation of monitoring wells and piezometers to evaluate groundwater quality and flow direction.
Based on our identification of the source and extent of contamination, we designed and supervised the installation of groundwater recovery and treatment systems and we continue to monitor their operation.
In support of several remedial investigations and corrective actions undertaken at the site, we developed groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport models and illustrated the results using 3-D visualization and animation tools.
