Conflict Assessment and Mapping
We assist communities by providing conflict assessment and mapping tools to help them discover the nature and structure of the instability, including its root causes. This assessment is essential to our process and ensures that the conflict management plan appropriately addresses political, economic, and social drivers.
Complex Partnerships and Cross-Cutting Projects
We work with officials and managers inside and outside of the affected community or country to facilitate partnerships to improve basic service delivery to meet community needs. Results in this area include our activities to:

Establish a policy support unit within the Republic of Georgia's Ministry of Education to address the varying educational needs of their diverse population

Help identify special needs of ethnic minorities and develop strategies to improve service delivery in health and education in conflict prone regions of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam
Local and National Institution Building
We provide technical assistance on policy, local government capacity building, public services, education systems, health care systems, voting procedures, and election-related training. Results include our activities to:

Engage local officials and communities in postwar democratization efforts in Croatia

Link citizens with local government to enhance participation in local government capacity building in El Salvador and Iraq

Facilitate efficient and effective local administration and services by training local government entities on budget planning, accounting, auditing, resource allocation, and budget implementation in post-conflict settings in Armenia, El Salvador, Indonesia, Iraq, and Kosovo

Deliver advisory and technical support to develop a path to lasting peace in Aceh following the 2005 tsunami disaster
Direct Outreach, Dialogue, and Confidence Building
We provide the leaders of host countries with proven methods to engage communities and institutions in positive dialogue and help foster civil society organizations that consider the needs of gender-based, religious, or other socially marginalized groups. Results include our activities to:

Provide training and capacity building to peace councils, clubs, and other entities in Guyana

Facilitate youth assemblies in several Kosovo municipalities

Support Iraqi women leaders from five northern provinces to organize a women's leadership conference
Integrated Community-Specific Reconstruction
We work with officials, civil society organizations, and the affected community to make physical and social systems work. Results include our activities to:

Support improvements to community service delivery for more than 2 million Iraqi citizens in the areas of water, sewer and sanitation, electrical power, fire safety, and primary health care

Support improved environmental health and sanitation in the West Bank/Gaza

Peace Through Development in Southern Sudan
The 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement declared a cease-fire in Southern Sudan and established new government structures. Under these new structures, RTI will work to build the capacity of local governments in Southern Sudan to deliver social services and promote economic growth.
