Carbon Mitigation: Technologies and Processes
Solid-State Lighting
Using photoluminescent nanofibers formed by combining quantum dots and polymer nanofibers, RTI is developing a new approach to solid-state lighting. By varying the properties of the nanofiber and the types of nanoparticles, we are able to elicit the full visible spectrum of light and improve the efficiency of the light emission process.
To date, we have demonstrated a proof-of-concept prototype and applied for a patent. Under the U.S. Department of Energy's Solid-State Lighting Core Technology program, we are developing the technology and working to adapt photoluminescent nanofibers into the fabrication processes for light-emitting diodes (LEDs) used to provide white illumination.
