Power Generation: Technologies and Processes

SNG Production

RTI is developing a commercial process for co-producing substitute natural gas (SNG) and electricity via coal gasification. Using sub-bituminous and lignite coals, this novel gasification process employs pyrolysis, gasification, and catalysis to yield methane-rich syngas. Processing of this syngas results in the production of an SNG product meeting pipeline specifications, a solid carbon product, which can be burned to produce electricity, and a high-pressure, high-purity byproduct carbon dioxide stream suitable for sequestration.
