High-Temperature Polymer Membranes

RTI is studying the feasibility of using a commercially available polymer as a means of lowering capital equipment and operating costs associated with hydrogen (H2) production. This thermally stable, aromatic polymer may allow H2 purification to be performed at water-gas-shift temperatures, making the process more thermally efficient. Also, by preferentially permeating H2, this process would produce a high-pressure carbon dioxide (CO2) stream that could facilitate downstream carbon sequestration.
