Power Generation: Focus Areas
Hydrogen Separation, Purification, and Production
Our researchers are developing a process for converting fossil fuels into hydrogen (H2)-rich streams using a multifunctional regenerable sorbent. During the reforming process, this sorbent simultaneously removes carbon dioxide from the syngas and removes hydrogen sulfide and carbonyl sulfide. The result is a high-pressure H2-rich (>95%) product stream.
We have also developed and patented a process for synthesizing palladium alloy-based composite membranes that can be incorporated into fuel-reforming membrane reactors. These membranes allow simultaneous hydrogen separation, producing a relative pure H2 stream as well as a pressurized carbon dioxide stream suitable for carbon sequestration.
