Gary Zarkin examines the costs, cost-effectiveness, and cost-benefits of interventions such as substance abuse treatment programs. These economic analyses help policy makers develop a case for treatment programs with the aim of helping drug users as well as society at large. Using lifetime simulation models, Zarkin and his team are extending the analysis of these cost-benefits and arriving at significant increases in value of treatment programs over time.
