Water Resources: Capabilities

Geospatial Tools for Water Resources Management

We develop critical tools for managing and presenting spatial data on water quality parameters in surface water, drinking water, and groundwater. By applying these capabilities, we are able to provide custom and in-depth water quality management applications for a variety of client needs.

  • Surface Water. We co-developed the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), which integrates data from EPA and the U.S. Geological Survey, and we are a leader in conducting reach indexing to the NHD. We support EPA's initiative to georeference surface water information to the NHD for several programs with multiple reporting cycles. We have developed award-winning and innovative tools, such as the Reach Indexing Tool (RIT) and the Web-based RIT, for georeferencing spatial datasets to the NHD.
  • Drinking Water. We support EPA's effort to develop and maintain the Drinking Water Mapping Application (DWMA). Based on the NHD, the DWMA provides a Web-enabled query and mapping system to identify major contaminant risks to surface- and groundwater sources of drinking water.
  • Groundwater. We developed Geode™, a Web-based data querying and mapping tool that allows instant access to environmental data for use in decision making, analysis, compliance support, and presentations. Geode is especially strong in managing and manipulating groundwater data and complex hydrogeologic systems. Users can log in from any location to query their relational databases and view results on graphs, maps, or tables. Geode can also export data for use in other software, and it offers interactive mapping, statistics, and document management capabilities.
