Hickey Honored by American Association of Indian Pharmaceutical Scientists
Anthony Hickey, Ph.D., D.Sc., distinguished fellow and senior research pharmacologist at RTI International, received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Association of Indian Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAiPS). (RTI News Release)

Lisa Greene Named to Agriculture Air Quality Task Force
Lisa Greene, director of microanalytical sciences at RTI International, has been selected for a second term as a member of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Air Quality Task Force, which was established to address agricultural air quality issues. Lynn Davis Wins Award for Work in Nanotechnology

Mansukh Wani Inducted into Medicinal Chemistry Hall of Fame

Robert Furberg Invited by President’s Cancer Panel to Explore New Media’s Role in Cancer Prevention

Elizabeth Andrews Appointed to Innovation in Medical Evidence Development, Surveillance Steering Committee
Elizabeth Andrews, Ph.D., vice president, pharmacoepidemiology and risk management in RTI Health Solutions, a business unit of RTI International, has been appointed to serve as the academia/research institute representative on the Reagan-Udall Foundation, Innovation in Medical Evidence Development and Surveillance (IMEDS) steering committee. Jayanty Receives Air and Waste Management Association Honorary Membership Award
R.K.M. Jayanty, Ph.D., senior fellow at RTI International, has received an Honorary Membership Award from the International Air and Waste Management Association (A&WMA). The award is given to two members each year who have attained distinction in a field related to the mission and objectives of the A&WMA, or who have performed valuable service to the association. RTI International received two Telly Awards for public service announcements staff members created to raise awareness of preconception health. Collins Honored for Outstanding Forensic Management
John Collins, forensic science policy and management advisor at RTI International, recently received the 2013 Briggs J. White Award for excellence in forensic sciences management. Jayanty Receives Southern Chemist Award
R.K.M. Jayanty, Ph.D., senior fellow at RTI International received the 2012 Southern Chemist Award. Jayanty has more than 40 years of experience in the field of environmental analytical chemistry and is an internationally recognized leader. Editors' Choice Middle Market Excellence Award in Enterprise Risk Management
The enterprise risk management department at RTI International, a not-for-profit that provides research services to government and commercial clients, was charged with developing a risk tolerance matrix for the organization. And because RTI was seeing a change in the type of work it was getting, the matrix would encompass not only critical indicators such as loss of life, loss of business or negative impacts exceeding $5 million, but also factors related to the effect projects could have on the company’s overall financial position. Paul Biemer Receives Award for Statistical Innovation
RTI International Distinguished Fellow Paul Biemer of Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences has been awarded the 2012 Roger Herriot Award for Innovation in Federal Statistics by the Social Statistics and Government Statistics Sections of the American Statistical Association. Suzanne West Elected to International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology Board
Suzanne L. West, Ph.D., an RTI International fellow and internationally recognized pharmacoepidemiologist, has been elected to the board of directors for the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology. Joshua Wiener Named Gerontological Society of America Fellow
Joshua Wiener, Ph.D., an RTI International distinguished fellow and director of RTI's Aging, Disability and Long-Term Care Program, has been elected a fellow in the Gerontological Society of America. Hendrée Jones to Be Recognized by the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse
Hendrée Jones, a senior research psychologist at RTI International, has been selected to receive the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA) Betty Ford Award. The award is given annually to an individual who has played a significant role in the treatment and recovery of drug-dependent individuals, particularly women. (RTI News Release)

Victoria Haynes Elected to National Academy of Engineering
Victoria Franchetti Haynes, former president and CEO of RTI International, was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Election to the academy is among the highest professional distinctions awarded to scientists and engineers. (RTI News Release)

Stout to Serve on NC Forensic Science Advisory Board
Peter Stout, Ph.D., a senior forensic scientist at RTI International, has been appointed to serve on the North Carolina Forensic Science Advisory Board. He will serve a four-year term on the 16-member board, acting as an advisor to the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory. (RTI News Release)

Triangle Business Journal 'Green Award'

Health Advisory Board Appointment
Rochelle "Shelley" Tyl, Ph.D., an RTI International distinguished fellow, was appointed to serve on the Health Advisory Board of the National Sanitation Foundation International. National Sanitation Foundation International is an accredited third-party certification body that tests and certifies products to verify that they meet public health and safety standards in America and internationally. University of California Senior Fellow Appointment
Derick Brinkerhoff, Ed.D., distinguished fellow in international public management at RTI International, was named a senior fellow at the University of California Los Angeles Luskin School of Public Affairs for the 2011-2012 academic year. This non-resident program invites 10 to 12 leaders from the public, nonprofit, and private sectors to share their expertise and experience with faculty and students. (RTI News Release)

2011 Warren J. Mitofsky Innovators Award
An innovation by researchers at RTI is being recognized for its ability to improve the efficiency and lower the cost of surveys by estimating and increasing the accuracy of household mailing lists. The innovation was recognized by the American Association of Public Opinion Research with a 2011 Warren J. Mitofsky Innovators Award at the association's annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. Society of Toxicology Lifetime Achievement Award
Rochelle "Shelley" Tyl, a distinguished fellow at RTI International, received a lifetime achievement award from the Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology. National Academy of Public Administration Fellow Appointment
Derick Brinkerhoff, Ed.D., distinguished fellow in international public management at RTI International, was inducted into The National Academy of Public Administration as a fellow. Brinkerhoff was elected based on his substantial scholarly contribution and experience in the fields of public administration and public affairs as well as his contributions to the advancement of public administration. 2011 Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers
Rama Venkatasubramanian, Ph.D., director of the Center for Solid State Energetics at RTI International, has been named a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers effective Jan. 1, 2011. Venkatasubramanian is being recognized for his contributions to the field of nanoscale thermoelectric materials and device technologies, revolutionary developments that can impact energy harvesting to thermal management of high-performance electronics. 2010

2010 R&D 100 Award for Chip-Scale Thermoelectric Cooler
RTI International and Nextreme Thermal Solutions, a spin-off of RTI, won a prestigious "R&D 100" award for the development of a chip-scale thermoelectric cooler that can be used to provide a unique and effective solution for thermal problems of high-performance computer and electronic chips. The annual R&D 100 award, sponsored by the trade journal R&D Magazine, honors the 100 most significant new technologies of the past year. (RTI News Release)

2010 North Carolina Award
Ivy Carroll, Ph.D., scientist and distinguished fellow, received the 2010 North Carolina Award, the state's highest achievement. Carroll was honored as a leading researcher in medicinal chemistry, including his groundbreaking work in the areas of biochemical addiction and drug abuse research. He was among six distinguished North Carolinians honored by Gov. Beverly Perdue. (RTI News Release)

Governor's Education Transformation Commission
Elizabeth Glennie, Ph.D., senior research analyst, was appointed to serve on the Governor's Education Transformation Commission. She joins 25 other top state leaders in education and business who will advise the governor and provide oversight on the use of federal funds to implement the Career and College: Ready, Set, Go! Genetics and Environmental Mutagenesis Society Board of Directors
Peter Schad, Ph.D., senior genomic scientist in the Social Sciences Division of Statistics and Epidemiology, was appointed to the Genetics and Environmental Mutagenesis Society (GEMS) Board of Directors for a three-year term. (RTI News Release)

BioMed Central's Fourth Annual Research Award
Godfrey Woelk, Ph.D., senior research epidemiologist, was honored with BioMed Central's Fourth Annual Research Award. Woelk was recognized in the medicine category for a research paper he led that discusses the process of translating research into policy in developing countries. (RTI News Release)

2010 Environmental Sciences and Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award
Senior Fellow Charles E. Rodes, Ph.D., has been awarded the 2010 Environmental Sciences and Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The award was established in 1995 to recognize deserving graduates of UNC's Environmental Sciences and Engineering department who made outstanding professional achievements as well as to provide role models for the program's current and future students. Lifetime Achievement in Environmental Practice from the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice
Senior Fellow R.K.M. Jayanty was presented June 24, 2010 with a Lifetime Achievement in Environmental Practice award from the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice. Jayanty was recognized for his “impressive accomplishments,” including research leading to rules and standards paramount to the protection of human health. (RTI News Release)

Distinguished Alumnus Award from Washington State University
Senior Fellow David Ensor, Ph.D., was honored May 9, 2010 with the Gene and Linda Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering Distinguished Alumnus Award at Washington State University. (RTI News Release)

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' Region 3 Outstanding Engineer Award
Senior Fellow Dorota Temple, Ph.D., associate director in RTI International's Center for Materials and Electronics Technologies, was honored in March 2010 with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' Region 3 Outstanding Engineer Award. The award recognizes a member of IEEE Region 3 who, through technical and professional abilities, has made an outstanding contribution to the electrotechnology profession. The recipient is chosen from more than 30,000 IEEE members of the region, which encompasses 10 states. (RTI News Release)
