RTI Names New Chief Financial Officer
Research Triangle Park - Research Triangle Institute has named James J. Gibson as its Chief Financial Officer, effective May 1. Gibson comes to RTI from Rockwell International Corporation, where as assistant corporate controller he worked with government contracting, commercial contracting, spin-off companies, and e-commerce.
"Mr. Gibson brings RTI the experience we need for our core operations in government and commercial contract research," said RTI President Victoria Franchetti Haynes. "His background also is consistent with our plans to implement business models such as commercialization of our intellectual property."
"This is an exciting time to join RTI because it is growing and is in exceptionally sound shape financially," Gibson said. "Under those conditions, there will be opportunities to improve the business processes that support the Institute's overall mission. And I am proud to become associated with that mission, which is to conduct research and development that improves the human condition."
At Rockwell since 1985, he held a series of increasingly responsible positions in corporate accounting. In his most recent position he was responsible for finance and accounting, administrative services, and financial leadership during acquisitions, divestitures, and new ventures.
He has a Juris Doctor degree from the Duquesne University School of Law and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. His B.S. degree in business/economics is from the State College of New Jersey. He began his career at Ernst and Ernst (presently Ernst & Young) and worked at a manufacturing company in Connecticut and at Hughes Aircraft in California before joining Rockwell in Pittsburgh, PA.
RTI's previous CFO, William H. Perkins, Jr., retired in 1999 after more than 40 years with the Institute.
