Lifelong Learning
We have a long-term, enduring commitment to the success of the Lifelong Learning process and the use of Lifelong Learning Centers (LLCs) as a process to create, store, and deliver relevant training and education content in a blended, adaptive learning environment.
Our approach includes integrating leading-edge technologies; education, training, and evaluation methodologies; and, technology-based training development into a coherent Lifelong Learning model that delivers effective education and training when and where needed.
Lifelong Learning Projects
Our development of the Lifelong Learning concept has a long and rich history, particularly with the U.S. Army. This commitment includes the following project activities:
Technology Development
-
Providing support to Headquarters, Training, and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and the Army Research Office to examine the use of virtual reality and synthetic environments in Army training.
-
Conducting leading-edge research in support of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Simulation and Training for Army Reserves (SIMITAR) to research the use of virtual reality, using PC-based simulations to train maintenance personnel for armor vehicles.
-
Designing the Army’s III Corps Digital Training Facility (DTF) located at Ft. Hood, Texas. The DTF design served as an early LLC prototype.
-
Authoring the U.S. Army Signal Center and Fort Gordon Information Technology and Digital Training Master Plan (July 2001). The USASC&FG master plan represented a roadmap for continued Lifelong Learning development. It is a living document that the Army continues to use today.
-
Advancing the scientific basis for Lifelong Learning through the TRADOC Enlisted MOSQ and Lifelong Learning Implementation Plan. Presented at the TRADOC Senior Leaders Conference in February 2002, this plan emerged as the blueprint for the introduction of Lifelong Learning to all Army schools.
Solutions Development
-
Providing the lead and supporting team members to the Commandant of the Signal School at Ft. Gordon, GA, as the TRADOC Executive Agent for establishing LLCs throughout TRADOC.
-
Establishing LLCs at the Army Signal School at Ft. Gordon, GA; the Army Ordnance School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD.; the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, KS; and the Maneuver Support Center at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.
-
Developing the Army’s Lifelong Learning Service Support Concept, integrating the LLC program into other Army training programs.
-
Authoring the Combined Arms Service and Support Lifelong Learning Master Plan for the Combined Arms Support Command at Ft. Lee, VA.
-
Providing support personnel to work in the Program Management Office for the Army’s Lifelong Learning program at Headquarters, TRADOC, where RTI continues to play a pivotal role in Lifelong Learning development for the Army.
-
Authoring the Lifelong Learning Strategic Plan for the Army, detailing a fielding strategy for Lifelong Learning capabilities to all Army schools.
Our commitment to the Lifelong Learning concept continues. Ongoing research is finding new applications for Lifelong Learning not just within the military, but with other government, corporate, and academic audiences.
