Strengthening the Fabric of Governance in Guinea Through Multisectoral Interventions

In Guinea, governance structures have long benefited the few at the expense of the many, obstructing stability and development. RTI is working to improve the lives of citizens through strategic interventions that produce tangible benefits while strengthening the fabric of governance required to extend such benefits to all. Help for African Militaries: Epidemiologic Research and HIV-Related Services

The mobile military lifestyle increases risks for HIV infection among troops and their partners. In Uganda, RTI, with support from the U.S. Department of Defense HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP), is working with the Uganda People's Defence Force HIV/AIDS Control Programme to scale up a comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment program in the military. In other countries, RTI assists DHAPP in epidemiologic research, including sero-behavioral survey administration and training.

Peace Through Development in Southern Sudan

For most of its post-independence existence, Sudan has been in bitter internal conflict, which has contributed to millions of deaths and left Sudan with the world's largest population of internally displaced persons. The 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement declared a cease-fire in Southern Sudan and established new government structures. Under these new structures, RTI will work to build the capacity of local governments in Southern Sudan to deliver social services and promote economic growth.
