Biography
Margo Brinkley, a senior technical director, has over 20 years of experience in data processing and over 25 years in software design and development. She specializes in planning, directing, coordinating, and performing software development and data processing activities. Ms. Brinkley has also designed, developed, and documented intricate general-purpose software systems, including editing and control system software, and a menu and windowing interface for a statistical package marketed nationally. She has also contributed significantly to the computer-assisted telephone interviewing and computer-assisted personal interviewing development process at RTI since the inception of both systems in the late 1970s. Biography
Philip C. Cooley, Fellow in bioinformatics and high-performance computing, appointed March 2008, is a principal scientist and assistant director of bioinformatics. He has more than 35 years of experience developing computer models for the study of environmental health and disease transmission scenarios. Cooley has been extensively involved in designing and implementing influenza transmission models for the study and management of pandemic flu. His current research includes an assessment of statistical methods for biomarker explorations as part of genome-wide-analysis studies, and he has developed a database of loci with known genetic properties. Cooley has authored or co-authored numerous reports, professional journal articles, and book chapters, and has reviewed for Science, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and the AIDS and Related Research Study Section for the National Institutes of Health. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is on the editorial board of Computers and Human Behavior. Read More…

Biography
Charles Ebel, senior manager in RTI International’s Research Computing Division, is a veteran writer and educator in the field of sexual and reproductive health. In his previous work as a vice president of the American Social Health Association, a nonprofit organization that works to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and their consequences, Mr. Ebel directed patient support and education programs on genital herpes, genital HPV, and other infections. He has also conducted survey research on attitudes and knowledge concerning viral STDs. Mr. Ebel has authored three books and dozens of articles for the lay press. Biography
Jay Levinsohn, PhD, has worked at RTI since 1974. He began his career in educational research by building large education databases from survey data. He then spent almost 15 years in information technology managing central computing services and assisting in the transition at RTI from mainframe computing to PC and PC server-based systems. In the last 8 years, he has been a department head in RTI’s Research Computing Division. He has over 30 years of experience in managing research projects, managing technical support services, and developing software applications. In the last several years, Dr. Levinsohn has focused on developing and deploying mobile computing systems. He has developed systems for the handheld Pocket PC to collect survey data in a variety of environments and for different applications. Read More…

Biography
Barbara L. Massoudi, MPH, PhD, is a senior research health scientist and leads the health informatics program at RTI. Dr. Massoudi has more than 20 years of experience in health, public health, and informatics and has specialized skills in epidemiology and environmental and occupational health. Her current research interests include documenting and reengineering the business processes of public health, knowledge management, electronic health records, personal health records, health information exchange, updating the National Agenda for Public Health Informatics, and public health informatics training and competencies. She previously led the Impact Analysis of the Health Information Security and Privacy Collaborative for AHRQ, and the Assessment of Variation and Solutions report for the first phase of the project. Dr. Massoudi is adjunct assistant professor of informatics at the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University and chair of the Public Health Informatics Working Group of the American Medical Informatics Association. Helen Pan, PhD, has over 14 years of experience in genomics and bioinformatics, in analyzing data generated from high-throughput technologies from genomics, in proteomics, and in metabolomics in the context of biological pathways and networks to address biological questions. Biography
Ramasubramanian Suresh, Director of the Center for Survey Technology in the Research Computing Division, is an expert at systems for personal, telephone, and Web-based interviewing, including CAPI, ACASI, CATI, and Web-based studies. He has directed development of instruments, laptop applications, field data management components, centralized data capture, monitoring or control systems, data management, and file delivery. He was the chief architect of RTI's CATI Case Management System (CATI-CMS), pioneered the Computer Audio-Recorded Interview (CARI) technology, was one of the senior designers of RTI's Integrated Field Case Management System (IFMS), led the effort to develop RTI's Document Management (DocMan) system for field studies so that CAPI data collection could be effectively paperless, and played a lead role in transitioning the CATI and IFMS systems to be FIPS-moderate compliant using RTI's Enhanced Security Network (ESN). Biography
David Uglow joined RTI in 2003 from Mathematica, where he was director of the Information Systems (IS) group for 5 years. Mr. Uglow has a long-standing interest in innovative computer-assisted data acquisition techniques. At the Bureau of Labor Statistics, he managed the development of the first large-scale federal Windows-based, pen-based field data collection instruments for the Consumer Price Index. At RTI, he is the operations manager of the Research Computing Division, and is leading a research group in interactive voice response and other voice computing applications. He served as co-organizer of the FedCASIC conference between 1990 and 1997, and received the BLS Commissioner’s Awards for Eminent and Superior Achievement for the design and development of the Systems Development Life Cycle for all Consumer Price Index production software, and the 1998 Consumer Price Index Revision.
