Biography
Jeremy Bray, PhD, Fellow in health economics, appointed November 2007, is the director of RTI’s Behavioral Health Economics Program. His research focuses on the economics of substance abuse and is an expert in the design and conduct of complex, multisite evaluations. Dr. Bray's research focuses on the application of micro-econometric models of time use to the demand for and social consequences of alcohol and illicit drug use. In his work on multisite evaluations, Dr. Bray is applying innovative design and analysis methodologies to the evaluation of behavioral health programs that consist of multiple interventions for multiple populations. Since joining RTI in 1992, Dr. Bray has led or co-led research studies funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and private foundations. Dr. Bray is an assistant editor for Addiction and has published his findings in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Health Economics, Public Health Reports, Medical Care, and Health Economics. Biography
Gary A. Zarkin, PhD, is director of RTI's Behavioral Health and Criminal Justice Research Division. He has led or participated in several projects involving the economic analysis of drug treatment, prevention, and studies of workplace substance abuse. Dr. Zarkin has published several papers on the cost, cost-effectiveness, and the benefit-cost of substance abuse interventions. He is currently the PI on a grant funded by NIAAA to estimate the cost and cost-effectiveness of the COMBINE intervention, and he is the project director of the State Outcomes Measurement and Management System contract with SAMHSA. He previously led the development of a new method to estimate the cost of services for methadone treatment. Before coming to RTI, Dr. Zarkin was an assistant professor of economics and a research associate professor of statistics at Duke University.
