CSA—News and Schedule

PotatoesCSA Registration by Phone, Mail, E-Mail

For 2009, the RTI CSA farmers/vendor are taking applications well ahead of the first in-person sign-up date at RTI (see additional information about sign-up days below). Beginning in January, both returning and new customers are welcome to review the online information about this year's farmers/vendor and what they offer, print the sign-up form(s), and prepay (for farm shares) by mailing a check to the chosen farmer(s). Customers make individual commitments to the suppliers and are free to sign up and pay at any time. It is advised to check in with the farmers by phone or e-mail to reserve your space before sending in prepayment.

Sign-Up Days

One of the most gratifying aspects of a local CSA program is getting to know the people in your community who grow, raise, or catch your food and make sure you receive it fresh each week.

For 2009, RTI invites North Carolina CSA customers to two sign-up events:

  • Wednesday, February 4, lobby of Building 5 (cafeteria building), main campus, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 5, lobby of 800 Park building, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

All are welcome to come and meet representatives from our CSA farm and fishing families; to ask them questions about share sizes and costs, the produce offered, and their farming and fishing histories; and to sign up and pay for shares.

Campus Delivery Location: Dreyfus Building Parking Lot

The on-campus CSA delivery location is the Dreyfus Building parking lot. Consult the RTI campus map to see the delivery location.

Signs are set up on Thursdays to direct CSA traffic to Dreyfus Building. Because the Dreyfus site is behind the RTI security gates, which close at 6:00 p.m. on weeknights, non-RTI CSA customers must be prompt in retrieving their produce by 6:00 p.m. (RTI employee identification is not needed to exit campus after 6:00 p.m.)

Member Information

To pick up your deliveries, come to RTI on Thursdays at the close of the business day, approximately 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on campus, and 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 800 Park (see Map and Directions).

For security, the outside doors at 800 Park are locked at 5:00 p.m. The main campus entrance gates close at 6:00 p.m., which means that non-RTI shareholders will need to be prompt. (Employee identification is not needed in order to exit campus.)

In addition to the food shares for prepaid customers, some of the farmers and the seafood vendor bring "extras" for sale to anyone who comes to the on-campus location on Thursdays.
