RTI's experts in international development are dedicated to improving the human condition in developing countries. With more than 200 international development staff members based around the world, RTI offers a range of policy support, applied research and analysis, and other technical expertise in strategic planning, institutional development, performance management, information systems, and training.

Our clients include the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Asian Development Bank, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and several agencies of the United Nations, as well as foundations and other regional and international organizations.

RTI delivers advisory and training services at the national, subnational, and local government levels, emphasizing institutional development through the transfer of analytical tools and methods. We often work in multidisciplinary teams that cut across traditional sector boundaries. Currently, our work spans the following technical areas:

Conflict management, mitigation, and reconstruction   Strengthening political and economic stability and mitigating conflict in highly transitional environments
Democratic governance   Working with governments, nongovernmental organizations, and citizen groups to promote open and accountable governing systems
Education   Working with local and international partners to design, develop, and implement sustainable education systems
Environmental management   Building local capacity to identify, investigate, assess, and address environmental issues
Health   Applying practical experience and research to strengthen health policies and design better programs to improve human health worldwide
Information and communication technology   Applying computer systems to help improve governance, reduce poverty, and spur economic development
Monitoring and evaluation   Strengthening international development initiatives by designing, implementing, and building capacity in cost-effective M&E systems to ensure appropriate information content, access, and use in decision making
Public finance and economic growth   Applying public finance tools to promote sustainable economic development and improve financial management of local governments in developing and democratizing countries
